The lead single from The Project titled “Best Days” begins with a drum fill that pulls you right into it. A captivating journey through rock and roll’s rich tapestry, this track marries the finesse of modern production with a thrilling throwback vibe, nodding to the classics whilst carving its own path.
The entire album is a beautiful marriage of quite a few favorite bands that we could easily classify as our very favorite of the nineties. The vocals alone bring a feel that would make Sabbath proud and some of the guitar haze is reminiscent of Smashing Pumpkins' second coming. But they don’t stop at that, oh no. The entire project is a critical look at your favorite bands; it’s all there, the Rush breakdowns, the awesome singing…and then you get the infectious feelers of pop and vocal hooks that ought to remind you of Blink-182. Man, the album is just the best! The Project sounds as good on tape as anyone would playing their favorite songs and they rock just as hard as their favorite bands and it clearly shows.
Produced by Dennis Hill, well known for working with large acts, and co-produced and engineered by up-and-coming engineer Steven Barnett, the song was recorded at Arrowhead West Studio. Mike Troolines, also the live bassist behind multiple nationally touring bands, did the mixing and mastering. Every detail for this song was revised, rewritten, and carefully hand-picked to bring to you a live recording that sounds flawless.
Former Shameless member James Davis is the man behind The Project, which brings back the classic hard rock sound of the past, combining it with a melodic pop sensibility. The Project is made up of a powerful front-man in the form of Jeff Plant, a solid drummer in Andre Bonter, and of course Davis himself.
As a taste of what The Project will be churning out with their full-fledged LP, “Best Days” is only a glimpse of what The Project may offer the future of rock ’n’ roll. Besides showing praise to rock’s greats, “Best Days” expands The Project’s all-embracing influences, being implemented with virtuoso cunning, evidently illustrating the best days of rock ’n’ roll are far from behind.
