After ruling American television, fashion, and business for decades, Tyra Banks played her trump card and moved to Sydney, Australia. However, the creator of America's Next Top Model's reason for choosing this time isn't just a search for peace or privacy but is as sweet as a double scoop of Rocky Road.
In a visit with Jenna & Friends on April 14, the 51-year-old media mogul shared her newest life chapter. Perched comfortably on the morning show set, Tyra revealed the personal and professional motives behind the decision to pack her bags, take her 9-year-old son, Yorks Banks Asla, and her longtime boyfriend, Louis Bélanger-Martin along for the ride, and head down there to the Land Down Under.
"I've been going to Australia a lot because we were making a lot of our ice cream there in this big facility, doing our recipes," Tyra said. The ice cream in question is Her brainchild brand, SMiZE, and Dream, which was introduced in 2021 with the idea of not just serving dessert. Tyra's Australian connection wasn't all based on business convenience. As she spent more time in the country to develop the products, she fell in love with the culture, the people, and the growth possibilities.

SMiZE and Dream, named after her signature "smile with your eyes" catchphrase and a nod to chasing dreams, has grown increasingly popular in Australia. After weathering this increasing demand, Tyra realized she was ready for the next major shift in her entrepreneurial career, a commitment that required her full immersion on the ground.
Her planned 3,000-square-foot flagship ice cream store in Sydney is ambitious and uses more than typical ice cream. Everything Tyra touches gets a larger-than-life treatment and will be a dazzling, inspirational experience with smiles for people of all ages. With immersive design, curated flavors, and those iconic wise-cracking, she imagines it as a landmark that embodies the brand's mission of merging indulgence with empowerment.
The move also marks a major lifestyle shift for the former supermodel. She now enjoys the relaxed Australian lifestyle after spending most of her adult life in the frenetic environment of Hollywood. Tyra's is a story of reinvention, a skill she's honed throughout her career. From runway model star power to business empire status and now, a global entrepreneur with a Sydney base, no dream, it seems, is too far away or too big. With fans clamoring for the grand opening of her flagship store, Tyra Banks isn't just serving ice cream. She's serving inspiration across Hollywood and Australia, one scoop at a time.
